Severe Drought Affects Over 54,000 Farmers Across the Country, Total Production Losses at ₱2.63 Billion

Manila —According to data from the Department of Agriculture, the number of farmers in the country affected by severe drought has reached 54,203, as reported by Radyo Pilipinas.


The total value of production losses in the 53,879 hectares affected by the dry spell has reached ₱2.63 billion.


Rice crops have been the most affected, with 34,264 hectares damaged, equivalent to 3.57% of the target area, followed by corn, which affected 16,956 hectares.


Regions hit by the recent El Niño phenomenon, as indicated in the latest bulletin from the DA, include the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Soccsksargen.


The Department of Agriculture continues to provide assistance to affected farmers, with total aid reaching ₱1 billion.
