Cotabato City —Minister Paisalin Tago of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) BARMM clarified that only a ferry flight would take place tomorrow, April 24, and it is not an official launch of operation by the Bangsamoro Airways in the Bangsamoro Region.

"Actually, wala pang operation yung bangsamoro airways. Mangyari sa April 24, bukas, as I understand it with my talks to my staff and Bangsamoro Airways people, it’s a ferry flight, dadalhin lang dito ang eroplano, wala pang operation” Minister Tago stated.

MOTC BARMM is still scrutinizing the airline company's documents, and the ministry has not issued the permit required for operation. Minister Tago emphasized that they need to verify the documents from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) before granting a local permit for "intraregional flights."

Upon reviewing the airline company's papers, it was determined that it is still categorized as a chartered aircraft.

“Yong mga papers nila, tiningnan namin, chartered pa rin sila kasi, nagcharter sila sa isang company .For the information of the public ang darating na aircraft is not a big aircraft, 6-10 seaters lang." Minister Tago explained.

A legislative franchise is also deemed necessary if it is deemed a franchise.

"Kung magpa franchise sila, yes, they need a legislative franchise pero kung may franchise sila sa national for interregional flight, that will do. So ang ibibigay lang namin dito sa atin sa BARMM permit lang” Tago added.

In an earlier press release, the Regional Board of Investments announced the aircraft's flight operation in BARMM starting April 24, 2024. The aircraft will fly from Zamboanga to Sulu and vice versa, with a capacity of 6 to 10 passengers, including aviators.

Bangsamoro Airways, operated by Federal Airways Incorporated, aims to bridge mainland BARMM to the islands in the region to strengthen bureaucracy and logistics and boost the economy, tourism, and job opportunities in the entire region.

In the earlier press release, RBOI BARMM Chairperson Mohammad Pasigan said that Bangsamoro Airways is expected to expand its services to Sibutu and Mapun in Tawi-Tawi after three months of operation and to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after a year of operations.

However, the MOTC BARMM minister clarified “wala pang permit to operate sa ngayon, its ferry flight, sinabing maiden flight but not even a maident flight, dadalhin lang dito ang eroplano”.
