Maguindanao del Sur —In a video provided by CIDG RFU BAR to iMINDS Philippines, men were seen test-firing a Daewoo K3 Machine Gun hours before the CIDG RFU BAR detectives launched the firearms buy-bust operation at 3:08 PM on Thursday, April 25, beside Sea Oil Gasoline Station in Barangay Poblacion, Talayan, Maguindanao del Sur.
The individuals in the video were the targets of the operation, which resulted in a shootout, killing 52-year-old Zaldy, identified as the Battalion Commander of Inner Armed Based Command, Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces, MILF, and a resident of Tambunan, Talayan.
Meanwhile, 26-year-old Ibrahim, a member of the 28 Brigade of MILF and a resident of Makadayon, Talitay, Maguindanao del Norte, sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire.
Three more MILF members were arrested in the firearms buy-bust operation, including a 37-year-old Inner Guard of 20 Base Command, 28 Brigade, Headquarters Battalion, a 49-year-old training instructor of 20 Base Command, 28 Brigade, and a 43-year-old member of 28 Brigade of MILF, as stated by CIDG RFU BAR.
Seized during the operation were four high-caliber firearms, ammunition, a four-wheel vehicle, a motorcycle, cellphones, and identification cards.
The arrested and injured individuals are set to face charges for violating Section 32 and Section 28 of Republic Act 10591, or Unlawful Sale of Firearms and Ammunition and Possession of Unlicensed Firearms. The suspects were also informed of their constitutional rights.
The arrested individuals and confiscated evidence were immediately brought to CIDG RFU BAR for documentation and proper handling.
Maguindanao del Sur Provincial Police Office, Talayan Municipal Police, and Datu Anggal Municipal Police provided convoy and route security for the extraction of CIDG Detectives from the location after the operation.
Present at the scene to assist in pacifying the crowd were Maguindanao del Sur Vice Governor Nathaniel Midtimbang, Talayan Mayor Tungkang Midtimbang, and Barangay Captain Rockie Midtimbang of Poblacion, Talayan.
CIDG RFU BAR employed two alternate recording devices during the operation.
