52 Cases of Pertussis Recorded in Davao Region

Davao Region —The Department of Health (DOH) Davao confirmed 52 cases of pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, within the region, twenty of which were laboratory-confirmed. Despite the rising numbers, the DOH Davao clarified that there is no pertussis outbreak in the area.


According to reports shared by Radyo Pilipinas, out of the 52 cases, 20 are from Davao del Norte, 13 are from Davao City, 12 are from Davao de Oro, five (5) are from Davao Occidental, and two (2) are from Davao del Sur, as per DOH Davao records.


Dr. David Mendoza, Assistant Regional Director of DOH Davao, mentioned that the agency will intensify its vaccination efforts, mainly targeting infants aged two to six months. He emphasized the importance of vaccination, highlighting that 60% of the 20 laboratory-confirmed cases were unvaccinated.


Dr. Mendoza encouraged local government units, parents, and the community to take advantage of the government's immunization program against vaccine-preventable diseases. He assured that the region is equipped with safe and sufficient vaccines distributed free of charge at health centers.
