DepEd Secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte Commends Global Teacher Prize Finalist Dr. Sadat Mindandang of Cotabato City for Innovation in Education

Manila, Philippines - DepEd Secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte warmly welcomed Dr. Sadat Mindandang during his visit in December last year. Dr. Mindanao is the Principal of Lugay-Lugay Central School in Cotabato City.


Joining Dr. Minandang in his visit was Cotabato City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Conception Balawag.



The vice president recognized the dedication of Dr. Sadat Minandang as the founder of the TulaKaalaman and Byaheng Kaalaman Project, a remarkable innovation in education aimed at sharing knowledge with underserved and out-of-school children.



Aside from being a teacher, Dr. Minandang also served as a humanitarian worker in a non-governmental organization in areas affected by man-made and natural calamities in Mindanao.


He is the only Filipino teacher who made it to the Top 50 Finalists of the 2023 Global Teacher Prize by the Varkey Foundation, Dubai Cares, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).


The teacher also received the Princess Maha Chakri Award as Outstanding Teacher in Southeast Asia in 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.


He was also recognized as the Exemplary Teacher of Mindanao and a National Finalist in 2019, Outstanding Educator by the UNESCO Club of the Philippines, Regional Ng Bayan Awardee in 2021, and a Regional Peace Champion Finalist.


The secretary commended the teacher as a true role model. The official called for continued resilience in promoting “Bansang Makabata at mga Batang Makabansa.”
