Cotabato City and 6 Other Areas Hit 42°C Heat Index; Residents Advised to Take Precautions

Manila — Cotabato City, Maguindanao del Norte, is one of the seven areas in the country experiencing a heat index reaching up to 42°C.



On March 1 and 2, a 42°C heat index was also felt in Bacnotan, La Union, Calapan, and Oriental Mindoro. The same heat intensity was experienced in Cotabato City on March 2 and 3. On March 4, Coron, Palawan recorded the same high temperature.


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts a high probability of elevated heat index in Aparri and Tuguegarao City in Cagayan today.


The heat index in Aparri and Tuguegarao City is expected to reach 42°C today based on the PAGASA forecast.


Apart from Cagayan, temperatures are projected to hit 40°C to 41°C in Cotabato City, Maguindanao, Echague, Isabela, and Calapan, Oriental Mindoro.


PAGASA previously warned that the intense heat in the country will persist until May due to the effects of El Niño. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
