Controversy Surrounding Captain's Peak Resort in Chocolate Hills Sparks Calls for Demolition and Government Investigation

The issue of demolishing the Captain's Peak resort situated at the heart of the Chocolate Hills has sparked heated debates and calls for action.

Bohol 3rd District Rep. Kristine Alexi Tutor voiced her support for the provincial government of Bohol's decision to seek assistance from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in addressing the matter, as reported by Radyo Pilipinas.

Rep. Tutor emphasized her opposition to any actions that may compromise the integrity of the Chocolate Hills — a UNESCO Geopark and a protected area under a Presidential Proclamation.

Furthermore, she expressed her full backing for the call to demolish the said resort while emphasizing the importance of due process.

The Provincial Board Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Protection has urged DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga to intervene and halt the resort's operations.

A recent viral video of Captain's Peak resort, criticized by netizens for its proximity to the Chocolate Hills, has fueled public outcry.

In a separate statement, ACT Teachers PL Rep. France Castro announced that the Makabayan Bloc would file a resolution to investigate the matter.

Castro stressed the need to determine how the resort was allowed in the vicinity of the Chocolate Hills, considering its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a National Geological Monument of the country, and a protected area.
