COMELEC Extends Deadline for Filing of Registration for Political Parties and Coalition in BARMM and Manifestation of Intent to Participate in the Parliamentary Election


Manila —Three (3) days after the conduct of the Multiparty Democracy Summit-BARMM held at the COMELEC Central Office, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has issued a modification to extend the deadline for the filing of registration for regional political parties, coalition of parties, and the manifestation of intent to participate in the parliamentary election in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) amending COMELEC Resolution No. 10987, entitled "In the Matter of the Period to File Petitions for Registration and/or Accreditation and Manifestation of Intent to Participate in the Parliamentary Elections."


The Modification No. 24-0370, entitled: "in the matter of the extension of the period for the conduct of certain activities in the BARMM," is in response to the memorandum issued by the Bangsamoro Study Group

Chaired by COMELEC BARMM Regional Director Atty. Ray Sumalipao.


Following the modification, the new deadline for the filing of the petition for political party registration and accreditation is extended to July 1, 2024, from the original date of June 7.


July 1, 2024, is also the new date set by the COMELEC for filing a petition for registration and accreditation of sectoral organizations.


The filing of a petition for registration of the coalition is now set for August 30 from its previous schedule of August 15.


The new deadline for filing a Manifestation of Intent to Participate in the BARMM election is September 30, 2024.


Aspiring regional political and sectoral parties have an additional twenty-three days to file their Petition for registration and accreditation.


Political parties have an extra fifteen days to finalize their coalition agreements starting from the prior date of August 15.


There is a thirty-day extension to submit a Manifestation of Intent to Participate in the BARMM election. | Diane Borja
