Marawi City, Lanao del Sur —Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Regional Field Unit Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (CIDG RFU BAR) captured Commander Wahab Gara in a joint law enforcement operation in the village of Tuca, Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, Saturday morning, June 8, following the execution of a Warrant of Arrest against him for violation of Article 324 of the Revised Penal Code under Criminal Case 14478.
The Warrant of Arrest was issued by Branch 5 of the Regional Trial Court, 12th Judicial Region, Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte, dated August 17, 2009, without recommended bail.
Commander Gara is listed as one of the National Most Wanted Persons/LTG Personalities with Reward-Authority by DND-DILG Joint Order on reward amounting to Php 1,300,000.
According to CIDG RFU BAR, Commander Wahab Gara is a member of the 102nd Guerilla Base Command (GBC) of BIAF, MILF.
The successful operation was carried out in collaboration with Task Force Sanglahi, comprised of the Tracker Team of CIDG Lanao Del Sur PFU along with the Tracker Team of PIT RIU15, CTD IG, 44th SAC-4SAB-SAF, 1403rd-RMFB14, 1st PMFC LDS, PIU LDS PPO, RID PRO BAR, and Marawi City Police Station.
CIDG RFU BAR also disclosed that during an attack in Lanao del Norte on August 18, 2008, the group allegedly robbed and torched the houses of residents in Kolambogan and Kauswagan, as well as the abduction and killing of innocent civilians. Among the casualties was Lt. Col. Angelo Benitez, the incoming Executive Officer of Joint Task Force Tabak in Iligan City, formerly assigned to the 102nd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, who encountered Gara's group in an intense gun battle.
The operating team immediately brought the apprehended National Most Wanted Person to CIDG Lanao Del Sur PFU for proper documentation and disposition. | Teddy Borja
