Chinese Coast Guard Targets Philippine Resupply Vessel in West Philippine Sea; Injures 4 Crew Members

Manila —Four crew members of one of the government's resupply vessels, Unaiza May 4, were injured after the windshield was damaged when the Chinese Coast Guard fired its water cannon during a resupply mission to the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal Tuesday morning, as reported by Radyo Pilipinas.



The National Security Council expressed concerns over China's actions, questioning its sincerity in resolving tensions through peaceful dialogue in the contested West Philippine Sea.



Philippine Navy Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, Commodore Roy Vincent Trinidad, highlighted the escalating situation in the region following the collision of the Chinese Coast Guard with a Philippine Coast Guard vessel and the water cannon incident involving one of the two resupply vessels.



Senate Committee on National Defense Chairman Senator Jinggoy Estrada stands in solidarity with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in urging China to stop the harassment of Philippine maritime vessels in the West Philippine Sea.


Senator JV Ejercito reiterates his call to the national government to expedite the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to bolster the country's defense posture, safeguard our maritime interests, and ensure the safety of our fellow Filipinos.


Senator Grace Poe also condemns the actions of the Chinese Coast Guard.
