Cotabato City — The Rules Committee of the Bangsamoro Parliament has given its nod to the BTA Bill No. 267, which entails the establishment of 32 single parliamentary districts within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Several modifications have been introduced from the original version of the proposed measure following a reconfiguration of some suggested districts, in line with the position papers received by lawmakers during a series of consultations.

During the committee deliberations, representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy and the Philippine Statistics Authority offered key insights regarding cadastral maps and regional population figures.

The committee is set to present the committee report to the plenary during the regular session this month of February for further scrutiny.

Based on the draft legislation, three districts are proposed for Basilan, seven for Sulu, three for Tawi-Tawi, eight for Lanao del Sur, four for Maguindanao del Norte, four for Maguindanao del Sur, two for Cotabato City, and one for the BARMM Special Geographic Area.
