Cotabato City —The Labor and Employment Committee of the Bangsamoro Parliament has established a Technical Working Group tasked to review the proposed eight-book Bangsamoro Labor and Employment Code.

In a meeting held on March 5, the Bangsamoro Labor and Employment Committee presented the mandate of the newly constituted Technical Working Group. The TWG was formed after a series of consultations and inter-governmental dialogues.

Member of Parliament Romeo Sema, the principal author of the proposed bill, stated that BTA Bill No. 59 was meticulously analyzed and crafted in line with the context of the Bangsamoro. He assured that the proposed code will uphold and adhere to higher standards without diminishing the rights and standards outlined in the existing Philippine Labor Code.

Under the BLEC, Sema said there are insights from the Malaysian labor code to infuse cultural context and provisions suitable for the Bangsamoro region.

COLE Chair Atty. John Anthony Lim mentioned that the committee and the TWG will conduct a series of meetings to finalize the proposed code, taking into account the comments and positions of various stakeholders.

Representing the TWG, Deputy Floor Leader Atty. Raissa Jajurie emphasized their commitment to thoroughly scrutinize the draft code before presenting it to the committee.
